How to Safely Uninstall Bloatware from a New Windows 11 PC

A new consumer PC ships with a mix of things — some genuinely useful (the vendor's driver updater), some noisy (trial security suites, casual games), and some ambiguous (media players, browser toolbars). Removing the noise without removing the useful bits is a small ritual worth learning.

Start with Apps & features in Windows Settings. Sort by publisher. Anything from the laptop's OEM is a candidate to keep if it looks like a driver, updater, or system utility. Trial suites and third-party media apps almost always go.

For stubborn leftovers — programs that show in Task Manager after an uninstall, or leave broken shortcuts — a dedicated uninstaller catches the pieces the vendor tool misses. We keep an entry in our catalog with a short list of options.

Two things not to touch on a factory Windows install: the vendor's driver-update tool and any Microsoft Store framework apps whose descriptions read 'runtime' or 'redistributable'. Both are load-bearing for the machine's day-two experience.
